The Black Magic Design Ultra Studio Mini Recorder is a long name for a small but powerful product. A thunderbolt based capture box, with SDI and HDMI inputs that is powered by the Thunderbolt bus.
It also has a mini price, I paid just $135 for mine (Thunderbolt cable not included).
I have used the box to bring in cameras to be used with Livestream and Wirecast for web streaming jobs. The box is natively supported by Livestream as well as all editing platforms like FCP, Premiere, and Avid. It uses the same drivers as other BMD devices, Desktop Video 9.x
The only negative thing I can say about this box, is that it is a non-looping device, an end-point on your Thunderbolt chain.
It’s the lowest priced capture device on the market, hands down.
